Im Alter von drei Jahren lernten sie sich kennen: "Noël x Simon" ist das Indie-Projekt der Bonner Nachwuchskünstler Noël Lunguana (18) und Simon Kleefuß (18). Der dynamische Musikstil des Duos lässt sich schwer in Genres fassen, am ehesten jedoch Alternative Pop/R&B zuordnen. Mit Blick auf Vorbilder wie NoMBe, Nao oder Vanessa Petruo haben beide ihre gemeinsame Handschrift in "Noël x Simon" gefunden.
Mitte 2019 kam den beiden Kindheitsfreunden die Idee, sich einem gemeinsamen Musikprojekt zu widmen. Sie waren sich einig, dass das Augenmerk auf Emotion und Ehrlichkeit von Lyrics und Instrumenten liegen sollte. Hieraus entspringen das Artist-Projekt und die Marke "Noël x Simon", die sich durch die unverkennbare gefühlvolle Stimme des Aufnahmesängers Noël und das virtuose musikalische Geschick des Instrumentalisten und Produzenten Simon auszeichnet.
Aus der ursprünglichen Idee, gemeinsam "ein, zwei Songs zu schreiben", entstand in der Spanne von etwas über einem Jahr eine Sammlung von über 20 Songs. Debüt- und Lead-Single des Indie-Duos ist die R&B-inspirierte Pop-Hymne "Forever Alone", die das Thema Einsamkeit ohne Beziehung auf eine neuartige Weise vertont.
Trotz ihrer unterschiedlichen musikalischen Einflüsse bleiben die beiden Indie-Künstler ihrem anfänglichen Vorhaben treu. "Alle unsere Songs basieren auf persönlichen Erlebnissen, die entweder uns selbst oder in unserem Kreis passiert sind", so der Singer/Songwriter Noël Lunguana. "Unser Ziel ist es, mit den Songs Themen, Gefühle und Gedanken anzusprechen, und zwar auf eine Art, wie es zuvor noch niemand getan hat."
Auch wenn es schwer ist, die Musik des Duos in Genres zu fassen, bleiben sich die beiden im organischen Sound ihrer Songs treu. "Alle Songs unserer ersten EP haben wir ganz traditionell nur mit Gitarre und Gesang geschrieben. Die Gitarre ist ein so vielseitiges Instrument, und das bringen wir in jedem Track auf eine andere Art zum Ausdruck", so der Nachwuchs-Songwriter/Producer Simon Kleefuß.
Trotz ihres jungen Alters bringen beide Nachwuchs-Künstler bereits eine Menge Erfahrungen mit: Simon, bereits in seiner frühen Kindheit zwischen Instrumenten aufgewachsen, wirkte bereits an mehreren renommierten Kurzfilm-Soundtracks mit. Währenddessen arbeitet Noël, der bereits Finalist der Casting-Show "The Voice Kids" war, seit 2015 deutschlandweit als Live-Performer und Songwriter. Ihr Live-Debüt gaben NOËL X SIMON im vergangenen Jahr (2020).
Die erste Single des Duos ist groovige Single-Hymne “Forever Alone”, die das Thema Einsamkeit ohne Beziehung auf eine neuartige Weise vertont. Die Single erfreute sich einer positiven Resonanz durch Kritiken zahlreicher Musikmagazine wie z.B. DIFFUS sowie etablierter Radiosender wie bigFM und WDR2.
Nach "Forever Alone" und "Self-Sabotage" erschien am 23. April die dritte Single des Duos: "Aphonia". Beide beschreiben Aphonia als eine moderne Power-Ballade, die aufgrund ihrer tiefen Emotionen und mitreißenden Produktion jedem zu Herzen geht.
„Aphonia“ ist zugleich auch die Lead-Single der gleichnamigen Debut-EP, die am 25. Juni 2021 erscheint. „Die Aphonia EP wird groß“, so Lunguana. „Wir arbeiten nun schon seit 2 Jahren an unserem Schatz und sind mehr als bereit mit diesem Projekt unsere Fanbase zu erweitern und unseren Sound zu etablieren." Die EP beinhaltet insgesamt acht Tracks, die sich alle in ihrem Sound unterscheiden. Über die Laufzeit der EP ist eine klare Entwicklung
von energetischen und extrovertierten Up-Tempo-Songs hin zu akustischen und melancholischeren Deep Cuts zu erkennen, welche über Emotionen reflektieren.

They were at the age of three when they first met: "Noël x Simon" is the indie project of the German up-and-coming artists Noël Lunguana (18) and Simon Kleefuß (18). The duo's dynamic musical style is difficult to be labeled in terms of genres, but it is best classified as alternative pop / R&B. Looking at musical inspirations such as NoMBe, Nao or Vanessa Petruo, both have found their common signature in "Noël x Simon".
In mid-2019, the two childhood friends came up with the idea to collaborate on a joint musical project. Without any debate, both newcomers mutually decided that their art should focus on emotion and honesty in lyrics and instruments. From this initial idea grew an artist project and a brand that is now "Noël x Simon", which is characterized by the unmistakably soulful voice of the recording artist and songwriter Noël and the virtuoso musical skills of the instrumentalist and producer Simon.
The original idea of "getting together to collaborate on one or two songs" resulted in a collection of more than 20 songs in just a year. The indie group’s debut and lead single is the R&B-inspired pop anthem "Forever Alone", which touches the common theme of loneliness in an innovative and unexpected way.
Despite their different musical influences, the two indie newcomers remain true to their initial project. "All of our songs are based on personal experiences that happened either to ourselves or within our close circle of friends", says singer / songwriter Noël Lunguana. "Our goal is to use our songs to address issues, feelings and thoughts in a way that has not been done before."
Even if it is difficult to categorize the duo's music in genres, the two remain true to each other within the organic sound of their songs. "All of the tracks on our first EP were traditionally written with only guitar and vocals. The guitar itself is such a versatile instrument, and we express that in various different ways with each track", says the up-and-coming songwriter / producer Simon Kleefuß.
Despite their young age, both artists already have a lot of experience under their belt: Simon, who grew up between a variety of instruments in his early childhood, has already worked on several critically-acclaimed short film soundtracks. Meanwhile, Noël, who was already a finalist on the German TV show "The Voice Kids", has been successfully working as a live performer and songwriter across Germany since 2015.
The duo made their live debut last year (2020) with their power ballad "Aphonia", which is also the title of their debut EP "Aphonia EP", which is scheduled to be released in May 2021. The duo describes the feeling of performing their own songs live as a "very intimate and emotional experience". After the release of the single "Forever Alone", Lunguana and Kleefuß are already in the starting blocks to release their other projects.
